Virtual Day in Clay | Ceramic Design

Ancients to Contemporary Multicultural 3-D Design
Middle School / High School

My upper-class interactive Potter’s Wheel program takes MS /HS students into 3-D design, form & function, and creativity. Students actively participate in the potter’s decision-making in spatial media. We explore the artistic history and multicultural heritage in clay, from the past to the present.

Students are ‘in the studio’ as we create one-of-a kind artwork. As the vase emerges from raw, wet clay on the potter’s wheel, students discuss design choices, classic shapes and works of art. Advanced techniques + the technology and science behind glazing, painting, and firing are explained. The potter’s wheel as a creative tool is the basis of a comprehensive artistic journey from raw materials to finished artwork.  Exploring the creative process is key to understanding how each culture tells their own story through three-dimensional art.
